Pastors Corner - February 2012 PDF Print E-mail

The Christian Calendar is sometimes difficult to figure out, especially when it comes to the Lenten Season and Easter. Well, this year Lent begins the last Sunday of February and concludes with Easter on the 8th of April. As we move on towards that blessed day there is much going on here at FPCQ! February 5th we will be led in worship by our middle and senior high youth groups. On the 12th we will share soup and sandwiches after worship and spend some time learning about the “30 hour famine” our youth will be participating in to raise awareness about, and funds for, the hungry of the world. The next weekend we will celebrate communion together and the final Sunday of the month Lent begins! February is indeed a busy, busy, short month. As we prepare for the Lenten season be thinking of the spiritual discipline you want to focus on and begin preparing yourself for a season of prayer, or study, or service, or all three, or something else. Get prepare for when Lent arrives, get ready to approach God with reverence and thanksgiving during this special time on the Christian Calendar. Be ready, because this is a busy month, with lots planned, and it will be gone before you know it!

Blessings and Peace,

Chris

30 Hour Famine

On Sunday, February 12th the youth will be having their soup lunch to raise money for the  30 Hour Famine. Please plan to stay after church that day and have a bowl of soup and make a contribution to help the youth raise money to stop hunger. The Famine will be held the following weekend February 17-18. We will be fasting for 30 hours to raise awareness of the need to stop hunger and also to raise money to help this cause.

Stewardship Notebook

The Stewardship Church Life Scrapbooks are out and making their way through the congregation and the Stewardship Committee hopes you appreciate this new approach to the 2012 pledge campaign. In the Scrapbook the Spirit-filled life of this church is on display for all members to enjoy as they prayerfully consider their pledge of financial support. Please remember, all pledges are confidential, seen only by your Church Administrator Jena Shelton, and your officer Team Leaders are always available to answer your stewardship questions. This is an exciting time in the life of the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy, and with congregational support we are sure that our future will be exciting as well!
