The Mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy, Florida is to call all people to a personal acceptance of and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; to provide a center for the worship of the One Triune God and the teachings of Scriptures and Christian doctrine; to nurture Christian behavior, as guided by the Holy Spirit, through fellowship, spiritual growth, and a real and caring family attitude; to minister to the needy, poor and disadvantaged; and to support the total Mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
The History of First Presbyterian Church of Quincy
Old Philadelphia
In the early 1800s, Presbyterian pioneers from the Carolinas and Georgia moved into the area that came to be known as Quincy. They gathered for worship and in 1828 built a church four miles north of Quincy that they called Philadelphia.

In 1833, the Reverend Mr. Daniel Baker organized the First Presbyterian Church in the village of Quincy. Eight men were ordained to serve as Ruling Elders. After a slow start, the church was reorganized in 1838 and new elders and deacons were elected.
The first house of worship was erected in 1845 on the corner of King and Madison streets. This church stood on that site until 1923. At that time, it was decided a new church building was needed to meet the growing worship and educational needs of the congregation.
The sanctuary we use today is that same structure. However, it was remodeled and rededicated in 1969.
The historic Quincy Academy building, located on the corner of Kings and Adams streets, was acquired in the late 1980s and serves as our Community Outreach Building. It currently houses our Food Bank, Clothes Closet, Cub Scouts and the local office for Habitat for Humanity.
In 2006, a large field and warehouse adjacent to the existing property was gifted to the church. Volunteers planted trees and sod and it is used for recreation and church activities. Future plans for the warehouse building are being developed.
From the early years of college and career to the golden years of work and retirement, we seek to meet the needs of all our adults. We develop ministries suited generally for all adults as well as specifically to ages, genders, and shared experiences. Small groups, Bible studies, activities, and programs include just a few of the means by which our adults connect to each other and to God.

It is our mission at FPCQ to lead the youth of our church and area into a loving relationship with Christ and others. We want to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere where youth feel loved and at home. If you don’t have a youth program you are involved in, come join us! We have an open door policy to all, encompassing all denominations.
A variety of programs, trips, and mission opportunities are offered. Find your niche and become involved!
We offer several children’s programs at our church. Our main focus with them is community outreach. Our vibrant children’s ministries are lead by compassionate adult and youth volunteers. It is our goal that through these programs that the children will learn about the love of Christ and know how to love and serve others in their lives.
There are always places for volunteers to teach, chaperone, lead and promote our programs.
The music ministry at First Presbyterian Church helps to lead the community in worship services that inspire the heart and connect us with one another as the body of Christ. To support this, the chancel choir, youth choir, and praise band, as well as soloists and small ensembles prepare music in a variety of musical styles and expressions.
Whether you are an experienced musician or someone who simply loves music, we would love to have you as a member of our music ministry. You are invited to use your talents in a special and meaningful way through these First Presbyterian ensembles.

FPCQ Food Bank FAQ’s
- What type of food can I donate?
Any staple is welcome: canned fruit, vegetable or meat; peanut butter, rice, noodles, soups, etc. - How can I donate to the Food Bank? Make checks payable to FPCQ and put in memo “Food Bank”.
- Who is eligible to receive items from the Food Bank?
We are an emergency based food bank. The local agencies screen for emergency need and issue a voucher those qualified as “emergency in need”. - Where can I get a voucher for the Food Bank?
Please contact a qualifying agency to complete the qualification process. - How do I volunteer to work at the FPCQ Food Bank?
Call the FPCQ church office at (850) 627-6576 to sign up to volunteer or complete the FPCQ Local Outreach Volunteer Form. - What would I be expected to do as a volunteer?
Volunteers sign up to work a specific Tuesday. Be at the food bank on your designated Tuesday. Volunteers will receive clients and issue food, restock bags as needed.

The First Presbyterian Church of Quincy Clothes Closet is not open to the general public. Requests for clothing are submitted to the church front office by local agencies. Based on the information received, a list of sizes and clothing items needed is prepared. Volunteers gather the items on the list. Once the items are compiled, the client is contacted to notified that the items are available for pick up.

- Where can I donate clothes to the Clothes Closet?
Contact the FPCQ front office at (850) 627-6575. - What types of clothes should I donate to the Clothes Closet?
Clean, gently used clothing. We do not receive shoes or undergarments. Watch the Sunday Service Church Bulletin for specif requests. - What clothing sizes do you need?
All sizes are needed and welcomed. There is currently a need for clothing items for children – all sizes, men – sizes Large to 3x and women – sizes Large to 3X (14/16 – 26/28). - How do I get on the list to receive items from the FPCQ Clothes Closet?
Clients are usually referred to the FPCQ front office by the Red Cross, Children and Family Services or Appalachee Mental Health. - How do I voluteer to help in the Clothes Closet?
To volunteer for the FPCQ Clothes Closet, contact the FPCQ front office at (850) 627-6576 or complete the FPCQ Local Outreach Volunteer Form. - What would I be expected to do as a volunteer?
When called, volunteers compile a bag of clothing items based on the client’s needs. Volunteers are also needed to organize and sort newly donated items.

Emphasis is placed on a physical item for collection and a Lifestyle change.

Gifts And Talents survey
First Presbyterian Church of Quincy is conducting a survey to learn more about each individual member of our congregation, and your response would be appreciated.
By completing this survey, your talents and strengths will be communicated to us so you can be effectively matched with volunteer opportunities. We will contact you when we think there may be a good match for you and give you an opportunity to share your talents. This way, our church family can perform good deeds for our fellow brothers and sisters.
James 2:14-26 provides an important blueprint for our faith journey, showing that faith alone is not enough: “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?…..So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”
